Helio Gracie first started his martial arts at the age of 16, when he started training judo along with his brothers George and Carlos. These upheavals in his early life had an impact on him and he began to suffer from chronic dizziness. While growing up, Helio’s family experienced financial difficulties, leading his family to relocate from Belem do Pará to the metropolis of Rio de Janeiro in 1921.
